Carla Baranauckas, a journalist and educator, has been involved with all areas of news, including international, national, local, business, arts and sports coverage.

Currently an editor for PoliticsDaily.com, she spent 21 years as an editor at The New York Times, working on the website and the newspaper. Among the stories she was involved with are the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, the O.J. Simpson trial, and numerous elections and sporting events. Before joining the Times, Baranauckas worked for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald, the Edwardsville (Ill.) Intelligencer, the Texarkana Gazette and the Pampa (Texas) News. She began her journalism career as a steno at the Minneapolis Tribune.

Since 1995, she has been an adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she teaches reporting, writing and editing.

Baranauckas, who grew up in Edina, Minn., received her B.A. degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where she majored in English, and her M.S. degree from Columbia’s journalism school.
